Lai Yee came back for a visit yesterday so a whole large half of the class went out with her. Our Bio lab practical was on identifying stages of Mitosis in the root, and since only 11 of us were left, teacher told us to do individually. I had to repeat the experiment trice because I kept squashing the root tissue too hard. During the second repetition, Boon Shing told me I should dilute the Acid Aceto-Orcein stain with distilled water. He did, so, naturally, I followed - thinking that was what teacher said.
I was already heating it on the electric hot plate when teacher came by and asked,
"why is your stain so thin?"
Hesitantly, I replied "umm..diluted it with..."
And teacher was laughing away and then said "No! Not this one. You dilute the Aceto-orcein!" Ouch.
